Work in Progress

My husband and I bought our house two years ago and let me just say, it is still a work in progress. Of course, he doesn’t understand that I will never be done decorating, but I just mean that I’ve still got lights to change and furniture to buy! My problem is my style changes constantly.  I like so many different things its hard for me to focus on one particular style.  I guess you could say my style is eclectic.  Here is the before and after of my kitchen nook.  These photos were taken with my phone, so I apologize for the poor quality.  As you can see I also have one of my prints hanging in the kitchen! Once I figure out how to use the nice camera, I’ll update all these photos.

The fun part about this for me is how little it cost me to change this room.  Paint, obviously, made a huge difference.  We used Sherwin Williams Functional Gray.  The table was given to use by my parents when we first got married and I just painted the chairs, the base, and stained the top of the table.  Added some curtains from some fabric I scored on clearance, and there ya go! A brand new room! I’m definitely loving this more than the yellow.  More rooms to come!

Paper and a Silhouette

I am totally addicted to paper.  If I had space, I would have an entire room dedicated to notebooks.  I like notebooks that have the spirals on the side or the top mostly, I don’t particularly like the ones that are bound without a spiral, it creases the paper and that just gets me all in a tizzy.

I live in a somewhat small town so when I need to go to the grocery store, that means Walmart. Unless I want to drive a little ways down the road, which I often do.  But yesterday I just needed to quickly run to the store to grab a few thing, brown rice, orange juice, and some black beans.  I will be the first to admit I am a total grocery snob.  I have purchased meat from Walmart in the past and it has turned gray too many times.  Gray meat is scary to me.  My husband says I am a persnickety  eater, I end up having a lot of “weird” bites left on my plate that usually get scraped on to  his.  What is “weird” you ask?  If there is some sort of extra phalange hanging off of my meat, its weird, if I think it has any extra fat on it, its weird, if it has a vein, definitely weird.  Oh, and if it has some strange texture, weird.  I’m totally getting off topic.  Let me bring this back.  I bought a notebook at Walmart yesterday, because I can’t help by graze on over to the office supply section.   I found this guy (picture below), which I knew instantly needed a monogram, duh.

My mom bought me a silhouette cameo, which was so very sweet of her.  It has been endlessly useful for little projects around the house and customized gifts.  So, I just printed up this fun little monogram, slapped it on the front, and voila! I’ll be happy for days over this guy!

Do what makes you happy! I think it’s worth it to get a $5.97 notebook if it brings you this much joy, so go out there and make your heart happy!

New Print on Etsy!

I just wanted to give my usual explanation of the print.  This one was inspired by someone I know who recently lost their sister.  If you have ever lost someone close to you, it feels as though there is no one left in the world.  For me, it is such a lonely feeling.  But, it is so wonderful to know that the Lord will stand with you and give you strength.  What a loving God!

Count Your Blessings

There are so many time I take the blessings in my life for granted.  I get frustrated with the obstacles in my life and become fixated on them instead of being thankful for what I have.  God has given me so much to be thankful for. I love the scripture Psalm 23:5, “My cup overflows with blessings”. For Christmas this year, I made a mug for my Grandma and that is the scripture I put on there.  I figured that was a nice daily reminder!

Mug_Cupoverflows This is the horrible iPhone photo I took so that I could show my mom what it looked like before wrapping it. But, I’m a picture person, I like to see the photo, even if its terrible!

Remember to count your blessings, it really helps put things back into perspective.  There is always someone who has it better than you and worse than you. So learn to be happy exactly where you’re at and Take Delight in The Lord.  (For He knows the desire’s of your heart)

Beautiful Things

I LOVE the song by Gungor, Beautiful Things.  Every time I hear the song it makes me cry.  I typed out the lyrics below so you can take a moment and cry too.  It doesn’t matter how sad I am I always love the reminder that God makes what seems like something so difficult, useless, or terrible and makes it into something more beautiful than you can ever imagine.  I like thinking about the song literally.  I imagine God taking my vacuum bag filled with nasty dust and gunk and making something beautiful. Or, I like to think about how beautiful the world He created is and how dusty it is.  Maybe that last one is a stretch, but it never stops amazing me how God fills me with hope just by showing me something beautiful.

My husband and I went on an amazing road trip last year. craterlakeWe stopped at this place in Oregon called Crater Lake. It literally took my breath away.. No seriously, I passed out at the top of the volcano.  Long story short, I cut my finger, saw the blood, and I was down for the count. I know its hard to see the crater in the background, but it is basically a giant volcano that exploded many years ago and then the center filled with the bluest water you have ever seen.  It was truly something only God could do.

My point in all of this is, don’t be discouraged. You are God’s prize and He makes beautiful things out of us.

I made a print with those words and its available for download on my Etsy shop:

Beautiful Things by Gungor:

All this pain
I wonder if I’ll ever find my way
I wonder if my life could really change at all
All this earth
Could all that is lost ever be found
Could a garden come up from this ground at all

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

All around
Hope is springing up from this old ground
Out of chaos life is being found in You

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

You make me new, You are making me new
You make me new, You are making me new

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us
